What is A Rhinoplasty (Nasal Surgery)?

The primary purpose of a rhinoplasty (nasal surgery) is to alter the external appearance of your nose by addressing either injuries or natural features. One of the goals of rhinoplasty is to preserve or improve the nasal airway. The external changes from rhinoplasty are life-long and the nose continues to agealong with the rest of the face.

What should I expect during Surgery?

Depending on the areas of the nose that need to be modified (tip, nasal dorsum, base of the nose or internal nasal structure) a rhinoplasty can take anywhere from 45 minutes to 4 hours. General anesthesia is typically used for the longer procedures but minor procedures may be completed with twilight anesthesia.

Any visible, external stitches may usually be removed at 5-7 days. After a typical rhinoplasty, a cast, tape or both are applied to your nose which is removed at one week post-surgery. Nasal packing is rarely used. Rhinoplasty may be combined with septoplasty and submucous resection of the inferior turbinates to improve breathing.

As with any procedure that involves the neck and face, a Board Certified, Facial Plastic surgeon, should perform a Rhinoplasty.
